"My student Walker Blaine has been composing and singing beautiful Dharma songs for many years. Now he has put together a wonderful collection of songs that both teach the Dharma and give excellent inspiration to practice it. I wholeheartedly recommend this CD to everyone." -- Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche

Welcome to the website for Highland Eyes, a CD of Buddhist songs. The music you hear is the opening to The Sun Is Empty, the first track on the album. I wrote The Sun Is Empty as a celebration at the end of a month-long retreat at Milk Lake Farm, a retreat center about an hour South of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Robyn Traill did all the arrangements and instrumentals on the CD. Robyn also produced the album.

Most of the songs on the CD were written during solitary retreats I did between 1997 and 2001. The lyrics include themes on compassion, impermanence, emptiness, death and dying, dependent origination, Buddha Nature, and Shambhala. The title track, “Highland Eyes”, was written for the anniversary of the passing of Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche. Trungpa Rinpoche is one of my teachers and one of the main lineage holders to plant the Tibetan Buddhist teachings firmly in the West. The song describes his life and the myriad of skillful methods he used to make the teachings available to everyone.

Enjoy the music! If you’d like to buy the CD, please use the link above. I am donating thirty percent of my profits to the Konchok Foundation which benefits Surmang Dutsi Til (the monastery of Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche) and other projects in Tibet; and Pullahari Monastery in Katmandu, Nepal. Pullahari Monastery is under the guidance of Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso, Rinpoche, another one of my teachers. Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso, Rinpoche is one of the most respected senior teachers in the Kagyu Lineage and a tutor to His Holiness the Seventeenth Karmapa, Urgyen Trinley Dorje.

Sincerely yours,

Walker Blaine
